ABBYCAR rentals

ABBYCAR Rentals, located at 7th km Tsairi - Airport ave, Rodos 851 06, Greece, serves as a car rental establishment on the beautiful island of Rhodes. User reviews indicate a notably mixed experience, with some customers praising their service while others report significant issues.
👍 Positive Aspects Highlighted by Customers
- Efficient Service and Professionalism: Several customers commended ABBYCAR for their
excellent services and professional team. One reviewer specifically noted a pleasant experience compared to a competitor, highlighting ABBYCAR's ability to provide what was needed without issue.
- Smooth Process and Airport Transfers: Many appreciated the
smooth process for picking up and returning cars. The availability of airport pickup and drop-off services was also a significant positive, with one user reporting a quick 5-minute wait for the shuttle.
- Potential for Upgrades: A customer who booked through e-dreams cars reported receiving a
small upgrade (Peugeot 208) at no extra cost, suggesting a potential for value-added service.
👎 Areas for Improvement & Common Criticisms
Despite the positive feedback, several recurring negative themes emerge, particularly from lower-rated reviews:
- Hidden Charges and Unexpected Costs: This is a significant concern for some customers. One reviewer, familiar with car rentals, described ABBYCAR (operated through Carjet) as the
"worst experience ever," citing
"several charges almost for everything," leading to paying
"twice as much from the initial price."
- Financial Hold Issues: A major point of contention was a $1,000 security deposit being processed as a full charge rather than a temporary hold on a credit card. This resulted in the customer losing approximately
$100 due to exchange rate fluctuations when the money was eventually returned. This suggests staff may sometimes be unaware of proper procedures for handling deposits.
- Vehicle Condition and Cleanliness: Several customers reported issues with the cars provided. Complaints included a
dirty car and a dirty, badly shaped car seat that an employee refused to help install. Another review mentioned the car being in
"very poor condition" despite driving okay, with specific mention of faulty windshield wipers.
- Customer Service and Staff Attitude: Reviews indicate inconsistency in staff behavior. Some describe staff as
"rude and clearly very stressed," leading to frustrating interactions. One customer was even
turned away for a second car booking because staff seemed unmotivated to find it, forcing them to find an alternative.
Overall Recommendation
ABBYCAR Rentals appears to offer a highly variable customer experience. While some clients have enjoyed efficient service and good value, a significant number have encountered issues with hidden charges, improper financial practices, poor vehicle condition, and unhelpful staff. Potential customers should proceed with caution and be vigilant, especially regarding upfront costs, security deposits, and vehicle inspection upon pickup.
It is advisable to:
- Thoroughly read all terms and conditions, particularly regarding insurance, fuel policies, and additional charges.
- Document the car's condition extensively with photos or videos before driving away.
- Clarify the nature of any security deposit (hold vs. charge) to avoid unexpected currency exchange losses.
Choosing ABBYCAR might be a good option if you get a great deal and ensure all terms are clear upfront, but be prepared to assertively manage the rental process.
READ THIS REVIEW FIRST!I have rented a car many a time for work and this was without doubt the most difficult, worst experience I have had renting a car!To start with, they are not located at the airport & they run a shuttle service, that's fine. However, information on the shuttle was very vague and we waited for 20 minutes for it to show! Then, we got to the hire car place and a few alarm bells were ringing. Firstly, they had a signtating that it was a MINIMUM €200 charge (essentially a fine) if your car had sand in the car or was considered dirty on the outside of the car.Next, you MUST PAY a one off fee of €10 a day or I think the other option was €200 for the week, as a form of break down cover. If you take the first, you have to leave a deposit of €1400 that they take out for any damage or cleaning they must do. YOU CAN NOT DECLINE TO DO EITHER. YOU MUST DO ONE OF THE ABOVE. THESE ARE NOT EVEN REMOTELY HINTED AT WHEN BOOKING ONLINE.As most, we took the €10 a day hit and prayed we'd get all €1400 back in our deposit. Which brings us onto the next problem and red flag. They told us that the €1400 would be BLOCKED. So, I was quite suprised and... Let's say displeased, to find €1400 had been removed from our account. NOT BLOCKED, REMOVED!!! So now we were REALLY worried about loosing our money. Then, the car. Online, it said we would get a Toyota Igo. Nice. Modern. Easy. Just what we wanted. Instead, we got a Fiat panda. You may be wondering what's wrong with that? It was the most basic car in the 21st century. You had to physically turn the key to lock and unlock it in the key barrel. No remote locking. To get inthe boot, you guessed it, key in the barrel. It had no sat nav, fortunately electric windows in the front and enough power that you just about got up the hill you were charging towards. The car had a horrible stain on the back seat and was somewhat battered. Started the car and the time was flashing and date a only a few days into the jew year (it's late April BTW). This meant that they gave us a cat with a battery that's been flat until the most recent days. That makes you wonder, is it going to start next day, is it going to run??? It was also FAULTY! SHOCK HORROR (technically). When driving at night, a warning lamp came on the dash. I was thinking, there goes my €1400 euros. Looked around the car and some of the lights did not work. So... They handed us a car, that had faults and didn't mention anything. Fortunately, the warning light extinguished when you next started the car with lights off. But come on, that's just cheeky! Then, the staff. Customer service, doesn't exist! They're very blunt with what they must say, no smiles, no help, just blunt, straight faced, waiting for you to leave. I tried joking with one, she pretty much told me she doesn't care, go away.Retuend the car. Fortunately, they found no issues with the car and gave us back our full €1400.Look, it works, ok. But, if you want a care free holiday, hassle free, worry free, don't go here. Go to one of the bigger known brands. Look at their reviews. Outstanding. Here, no! We were worried we were not going to get our money back. We were worried the car wouldn't start. We were worried of walking on beaches in case a grain of sand made it into the car. It's just really really not worth it.ABBYCAR. If you want to actually stay running as a business, sort yourselves out. Don't leave customers in he dark and make them feel cond. Tell them upfront, first time the payments they need to make... Tell them what car they're actually getting... Give them a car that they're not panicking it's going to die on them at any moment.Last thing everyone. You may think I'm just moaning. Read the other reviews. Stupidly, we did, just after we collected the car and started to worry about things.
Biggest scam in history! They will charge you extra for extra insurance and deposit!Stay away from these companies.Welcome to Greece, the land of scams, never coming back!
The worst company ever! We have pre paid for the car rental before our trip. When we went to the office they require us to pay £70 on top of what we paid already. We have waited over an hour on the airport with 7 years old child, to be driven to the office, inform us that we have to pay them more then, and when we disagree they drove us back to the airport! This is CRIMINAL what they doing! If I could leave one star I would definitely do so.
Excellent services and very professional team. Compared with my negative opinion and experience YOURs car rental local manager and her bad behavior and attitude, the people in ABBYCAR provided with what I needed in a pleasant way. There is no issue or any complaints to mention.
Scammers, stay away...After booking a car from the ryanair app for 140 euros, which uses a generic service for car rentals, the employee at the counter told me (and everyone else there), that in order to take the car, we would need to take a 90 euros MANDATORY road assistance package, without it i wouldnt be able to take the car. This is extortion on the highest level. They werent writing anything like that on the external app, since noone would rent from them.Already contacted the police regarding this extortion matter and the consumer assistance service. Please stay away, there are better companies that do not scam their customers this way.
