Ellia Hotel, located in Lothiarika, Rhodes Island, Greece, is a resort hotel offering lodging that garners a variety of guest opinions. While some aspects are praised, several areas consistently emerge as points of concern for visitors.
👍 The Positives
- Friendly Staff: Guests frequently commend the hotel's personnel, describing them as "generally quite nice,""very kind and helpful," and "pleasant." Special mention goes to the "pancake man," who is consistently praised for his excellent food and cheerful demeanor.
- Good Location: The hotel boasts a convenient location with a bus stop right at the entrance. There are "a lot of shops, car rental and restaurants nearby," making it easy for guests to explore the local area. The beach is also described as "very close and nice."
- Upgraded Rooms: For those who opt for them, upgraded rooms are described as "lovely" and "very clean and tidy," offering a more comfortable stay.
- Dinner Quality: While other meals receive mixed reviews, dinners are often considered "very good and tasty," potentially making up for less impressive lunches.
👎 Areas for Improvement
Bedrooms & General Cleanliness 🧼
A recurring theme across reviews is the hotel's cleanliness and room condition. Standard rooms, particularly bungalows, are often noted as being "a bit dated," "not very clean," and having "old furniture." Some guests felt their rooms were "not holiday style" and that daily room service was minimal, primarily just making the bed and changing toilet paper. Overall, the property appears to need a "deep clean," with one reviewer suggesting it hasn't been done thoroughly in years.
Food & Drinks 🍽️🍹
The culinary experience at Ellia Hotel receives highly mixed, often critical, feedback.
Food: While some find the food "okay" with vegetarian options available, it can become "quite samey" after a few days. Lunches are particularly noted as "not that good," and snacks offered between main meals are widely considered "awful," consisting of dry toast, old croissants, and poor-quality ice cream. Some extreme feedback even mentioned a risk of food poisoning.
Drinks: This is a consistent major downside. Guests report "no fresh drinks" with all beverages being "cordial" or low-quality. Alcohol options are described very negatively, with wine being likened to "white vinegar wine" or "red vinegar wine," and beer referred to as "ear wax beer." Cocktails are reportedly made with these wines and more cordial, leading to very sweet and often "salty and undrinkable" concoctions. Beer was the only potable option for some.
Facilities & Maintenance 🚧
- Pool Area: While generally deemed "okay," one pool area was noted as being "a little stinky" at times.
- Fitness Area: Described as minimal, featuring "only one bar with bench and a treadmill," and not considered worth the €10 extra charge.
- Upkeep: The hotel is generally considered "quite run down with a lot of bodge repairs," and concerns were raised about "broken walkways" potentially posing a safety risk.
🧐 Who is it for?
Ellia Hotel is generally suggested as a "good option if you're on a budget." However, many guests indicate they "wouldn't rush back" due to the various issues, particularly regarding cleanliness, room quality (if not upgraded), and the food and drink offerings. The cuisine also appears to cater significantly to British guests.
Not a bad hotel, everything average ish. The cleaning isn’t great as a few reviews say, the whole place needs a deep clean as it’s clears it’s not been done for a few years, rooms are the same, a bit dated and not cleaned too well. Staff generally quite nice apart from around the second pool where they really don’t want to be there. Food was okay, had a few options for vegetarians but after 4 days or so it’s quite samey. Good option if you’re on a budget but wouldn’t rush back.
It's quite run down with a lot of bodge repairs. Food is really bad! No fresh drinks, they are all cordial and as for the alcohol,,,, it's either White vinegar wine, Red vinegar wine or something yellow they call ear wax beer, they do cocktails!! but made with the two wines and again more cordial to colour so if you don't have diabetes you will have when you leave if you don't break your neck on the broken walkways or die of food poisoning.Other than that it's quite sunny.
Lovely hotel very clean and tidy.Paid for a upgraded room that was lovely too.The food was a little plain but plenty of restaurants near by.Only thing that wasn’t great the pool area was a little stinky. (Was fine on the last two days)Would return thanks 😊
I will start with the rooms. We stayed in bungalov, the rooms are not very clean, everyday room service only makes a bed and change toilet paper. Furnitute is pretty old and there were only 3 sockets, only one of them close to the bed.Food is ok, lunch is not that good, but dinners makes it up for it. Breakfests are OK, best part about whole food experience is “pancake man” (the guy who makes pancakes and grilled stuff at dinner), food from him was always very good and he is always smiling :) snacks between main dishes are awful (plain toast bread with ham (very dry), some old croissants and very bad ice cream)Biggest downside of the hotel is its drinks, everything tastes salty and is undrinkable (at least for me). Only thing that I could drink was beer.Pool area is ok. Stuff was pleasent, no problem with any of them at all. Hotel says that there is fitness area, but there is only one bar with bench and a treadmiľ, not worth 10€ extra.Overall 2/5, lot of things can be changed easily for better tho.
The total opinion is good, but I had to be fair and give only 3 stars for room. I got the old room, not renovated at all. The room was clean, but it was not holiday style. I know that there are some new rooms, so my note is max. The personel is very kind and helpful. The food is very good and tasty. It is visible that a lot of guests are from Great Britain so the half cusine is coocked for them. The surrounding is very comfortable. The bus stop is just at the entrance. A lot of shops, car rental and restaurants. And the beach is very close and it is nice.
